Are Your Children Safe Riders?

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Cooperative Extension Program at the Waller County office family & consumer sciences (FCS) program areas strive to improve families’ lives to help improve Texas.

Each class is limited to five families.  Families must pre-register for the class they would like to attend, according to course instructors Lynna Wright, County Extension Agent for FCS and Te’Anna Reed, Extension Agent, CEP for FCS.  Mrs. Wright is a current certified child safety seat technician. As a certified technician, she is  happy to inspect any type of car seats for any family.

98% of inspected child safety seats have some form of misuse.  Make sure your children are Safe Riders.

Classes are held at the Extension office at 846 6th Street, Hempstead, Texas.  To sign up for the class, contact the office at 979-826-7651.  Information needed is age, weight and height of the child.  Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in the classes and to bring the child who is in need of a safety seat.  Pregnant women seeking seats should be scheduled in the 3rd trimester, preferably around 7 month.  There are no infant seats with bases offered for this program.

Child safety seats provided by Safe Riders are free of charge to qualifying families.  The program currently has 4 types of child safety seats made by Evenflo for distribution to handle needs of families.  They are Tribute V convertibles for children 5-40 pounds, Titan convertibles for tall and higher weight toddlers, Secure Kid Combination seats for young children over 4 between 40-55 lbs. and the belt positioning Big Kid Booster seat for older children requiring a boost in order to use a regular seat belt.  If you know of a Spanish speaking family that could benefit from the program, please help them make contact with the office.  Please attend the class with non-English speakers to translate information from the instructor as instructors are not bi-lingual.
