Big Time in D9, will occur this year on May 1 and 2, 2015, at the Alvin Community College in Alvin, TX. Numerous contests will occur over the 2 day event, along with a new 4-H Fued, 4-H Grillmaster cookoff. Good luck to those youths representing Waller County 4-H. Big Time in District 9 is a chance for 4-H youth to showcase the skills they have developed through various project areas on the county level. The event was held May 4-5 in Conroe, Texas at the Lone Star Convention Center. Full of contests, educational presentations, leadership exercises, and fun – Waller County sent eleven 4-H’ers to participate in this district event.
Miranda Jones had a first place finish in the senior-level Consumer Decision Making Contest. Miranda also had a first place finish in Senior Educational Presentations; Trans Fats: The Hidden Enemy of Americans. The top finish qualifies Miranda to advance to state 4-H RoundUp in Senior Educational Presentations. State 4-H RoundUp will be held in Lubbock, Texas. John Phillip Jones placed first in Intermediate Educational Presentations; Plant Succession and Its Effects on Wildlife. John Phillip also participated in photography. Both Jones also placed fourth in their respective age divisions in the Musical Instrument Categories of the Share-The-Fun Contest.
Avery Carpenter and Westin Seets both had fourth place finishes in Intermediate Construction Classes at the Fashion Show.
In the Food Show, John Phillip Jones placed first in Intermediate Nutritious Snacks and Westin Seets placed fourth in Intermediate Fruits and Vegetables. Other Food Show participants were; Emily Klausemeyer, Meagan Gonzales, and Miah Lopez. The team of Aubree Cole, Emily Timmer, Emma Tompkins, and Makenzi Rape placed third in the junior level Food Challenge Competition.
